House S383,The Old City 13 Tilzes St. Historic value A brick stucco two-storeyed building with a gable roof was built in the middle of the 19th century. Later one-storeyed extensions with the pent-roofs were built. The extension on the left side of the building was built for the trading purpose judging from the window-case decorated with a pediment. The extension on the right side of the building was built in 1930 and it served as a two-rooms apartment with a kitchen where the writer lived since 1931. While living there she finished her famous novel “Aukstuju Simoniu likimas” and wrote the first part of the novel “Vilius Karalius”. The plan of the extension has changed: one wall was demolished and the premise is being used by the library. |
