Complex of Buildings G81K,
The Old City,
6/13 Tiltu St.
Architectural value The complex consists of two buildings. The living – commercial house is located in the central Tiltu Street. The house was built in the second half of the 19th c. and it was owned by a merchant Schulz. It has the typical forms of the post-fire Klaipeda: rather hard, moderate, and monumental. (Later décor became subtler, with an inclination towards ornamentation). At the beginning of the 20th c, on the first floor of the house the Zalioji pharmacy functioned: it developed from the oldest pharmacy in Klaipeda, which was granted the privilege in 1677. The pharmacy may have partly owned the warehouse rebuilt after the fire of 1954 in the architectural style typical of the Klaipeda region. In the yard façade there is a small triangular pediment. The gable roofs slope towards the yard. The façade of Kurpiu Street is monumental, with large surfaces and narrow arch windows dominating (the influence of the style of Neo-Romanticism). The house was restored in 1975 –1985 and made into a café. |
