Petras Balsys

balsys1949 07 31 born in Šilutė region.
Wood carver.
He lives and creates in Gargždai. In 1975 Petras started to carve. At first he created masks, devils, witches and other souvenirs. In 1982 he became a folk master. Later he started to create bas-reliefs, round, chamber and monumental sculptures.The Baltic and Christianity themes dominate in his sculptures. He creates crosses, stelas and roofpoles. Petras has held 4 solo exhibitions and his works have been exhibited in 42 group exhibitions. You can find his works all over the world.
He is a member of Lithuanian Folk Artist Association Žemaitija Department.

 
Egidijus Joneckis

joneckis1963 06 19 born in Klaipėda.
Wood carver.
He has been keen on wood carving since his childhood. His works are full of love and warmth.
Egidijus participates in folk fairs and exhibitions.
In 1988 he became a member of Lithuanian Folk Artist Association Žemaitija Department.

 
Stanislovas Jonikas
jonikasBorn in 1952  in the village Payžnis in Šilalė region .
Wood carver.
He has been carving since 5 years old.
He studied at Stepas Žukas College of Applied Arts in Kaunas. The most beautiful and delicate his works are "rūpintojėliai" (carvings of God statues), which are carved of different wood colours. This master is also good at carving traditional wooden shoes.
He is a member of of Lithuanian Folk Artist Association Žemaitija Department.
He participates in exhibitions.

 
Juozas Lukauskas
lukauskas1906 01 14 born in Vaiteliai village in Kretinga region. Juozas died in 1999.
Medžio drožėjas.
He studied at Mikoliai primary school.
In 1926 this artist was taught the craft of carpenter by Baltmiškis in Palanga.
In 1950 he started to take part in exhibitions as a wood carver.
From 1956 to 1976 Juozas worked as a wood carver at Klaipėda Art factory.
In 1966 he was one of founders of Lithuanian Folk Master Society.
From 1972 to 1989 he participated in different creative camps of wood carvers.
He was awarded different Soviet Union and Lithuania republic awards for his creation. 
                                        In 1989 he was granted a honorary citizen name of Kretinga district.

majorasGimė 1930 10 23 Šilutės r., netoli Švėkšnos, gūdžiame kaime, keistu pavadinimu, kokį galbūt galima rasti tik žemaičių krašte – Vilkų Kampas.
Mirė 2006 03 19 .
Liaudies skulptorius.
Būsimasis tautodailininkas, besimokydamas Švėkšnos gimnazijoje, šešiolikos metų pateko į lagerius už dalyvavimą pogrindžio rezistencijoje. Rusijos lageriuose prasidėjo visi Vytauto amatų mokslai, mokyklos ir universitetai. Gabus ir imlus jaunuolis dirbdamas metalo liejykloje išmoko tekintojo, dailidės, staliaus darbus. Tremtyje jis bendravo su lietuvių inteligentais.
1955 m. po 8 metų tremties grįžta į Lietuvą ir ima mokytis Telšių taikomosios dailės technikume. Pabaigęs technikumą, ilgą laiką dirbo Klaipėdos "Dailės” kombinate.
Tačiau Meistrui niekad neužteko, kad jo drožiniai puoštų tik namo vidų ar puikuotųsi parodose – jo raganaitės, kipšai, šventieji, dievukai ir visi stebuklingi mediniai gyviai bėgo laukan, šliejosi prie gyvo medžio, žvelgė į sodybos tvenkinius, į tėviškės tolius… Kas dabar suskaičiuos, kiek išdrožta rūpintojėlių, kiek pastatyta kryžių miesteliuose, kaimo kapinaitėse, kiek darbų išdovanota…
Nuo 1960 m. buvo Lietuvos tautodailininkų sąjungos Žemaitijos skyriaus narys.
Surengė nemažai autorinių parodų. Kūrinius eksponavo 26 tautodailės parodose.
1982 m. jam buvo paskirta Valstybinė premija. 1996 m. apdovanotas Didžiojo Kunigaikščio Gedimino ordinu ir V laipsnio medaliu.

 
Jonas Pensis

pensis1935 05 15 born in in Karklininkai in Klaipėda region.
Wood carver.
Wood carving is not just free time activity for him. It is the meaning of his life.
Jonas participates in folk exhibitions and folk fairs.
In 1985 he became a member of Lithuanian Folk Artist Association Žemaitija Department.
This folk artist has been carving ''kurėnas'' and boxes for 5 years.

 

 
Anicetas Puškorius

a_puskorius1911 11 23 born in in Skaudaliai village in Kretinga region. He died in 1994.
Wood carver.
He was a folk master and a sculptor. Anicetas studied at Skaudaliai primary school. In 1928 he started to participate in exhibitions.
From 1937 to 1940 he worked for company "Marginiai", later he worked at Kaunas Art factory. In 1947 he started working at Klaipėda Art factory.
Anicetas took part in republican and union folk art exhibitions.
In 1960 he became a member of Lithuanian Folk Artist Association Žemaitija Department. He was the founder of Žemaitija Department. He held 6 solo exhibitions and took part in folk exhibitions in Lithuania, Italy, Czech Republic,Hungary, etc.
His best carvings were created when he was 50-60 years old.
Some of his sculptures were purchased by museums in Lithuania. You can find his works abroad, too.

 
Raimundas Puškorius

puskorius1954 06 14 in Skaudaliai village in Kretinga region.
Wood carver.
He is a sport organizer of Kretinga Administration Union. Four Anicetas' sons followed his example. Raimundas and Linas are the members of Lithuanian Folk Artist Association.
Raimundas is one of the best. His sculptures, roofpoles and shrines decorate different places in Kretinga, Klaipėda region, Lithuania and foreign countries.
In 1972 he became a member of Lithuanian Folk Artist Association Žemaitija Department. He is the deputy director of Kretinga Section, too.
Raimundas has participated in lots of creative camps and exhibitions in Lithuania, Japan, Denmark, Germany, Hungary and the USA.
Since 2007 he is a councilor of Kretinga District Municipality. He represents the Homeland (Conservatory) Party. Raimundas lives and creates in Kretinga.

 
Angelė Rauktienė

rauktiene1953 07 01 born in in Veiveriai in Prienai region
She speckles Easter eggs and dowry chests. Short-story writer.
She studied the art of material‘s speckleness and trim at College of Applied arts in Kaunas. She worked as an art designer in the board of land – reclamation in Šilutė.
22 years later she devoted herself to creation. Angelė creates together with her husband Vytautas Rauktys. Vytautas carves wood sculptures and turns wood dishes or other domestic things. He also turns dowry chests and wooden eggs, which are speckled by Angelė.
They participate in a lot of exhibitions and folk fairs.
The Raukčiai were the first, who paid attention at Easter eggs as our cultural inheritance.
In 2000 Angelė Rauktienė represented Lithuania in Sweden as an Easter eggs‘ artist.
In 2006 she became a nominee of "The ray of Lithuanian village 2006".
Angelė and Vytautas Raukčiai are founders of the first private Easter eggs‘ museum "The attic of mode of life and Easter eggs".
Angelė is a member of Lithuanian Folk Artist Association Žemaitija Department.

 
Vytautas Rauktys

Wood carver.
Vytautas studied artistic amber working, but he created different works of wood. He carves wood sculptures and turns wood dishes or other domestic things. He also turns dowry chests and wooden eggs, which are speckled by his wife, famous folk artist Angelė. You can find their works all over the world.
V.Rauktys is a member of Lithuanian Folk Artist Association Žemaitija Department.
He is the founder of the private museum "The attic of mode of life and Easter eggs".

 
Algirdas Ridikas

ridikas1963 02 25 born in Klaipėda.
Wood carver.
He has been interested in art since his childhood, because his father was a wood carver.
Algirdas studied at Klaipėda Art School. Later he graduated from the College of Applied Arts in Telšiai. In 1985 he started to work as a carver in factory "Minija" in souvenirs section.
In 1999 he became a folk artist. He has been carving bas-reliefs and other wood articles for 20 years. You can find his works in Lithuania and abroad.
He is a member of Lithuanian Folk Artist Association Žemaitija Department.


 
Alfonsas Skiesgilas

skiesgilas1919 02 09 in Plaušiniai village in Skuodas region.
Sculptor. Wood carver.
He worked as a carpenter all his life. Alfonsas started to carve when he retired. He has created more than 500 sculptures of wood. In 1986 he was awarded State Premium of Lithuania. His creation is ascribed to primitive folk art. He has participated in lots of exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad. His works were purchased by museums in Sankt-Peterburg, Moscow, Vilnius, Klaipėda, Telšiai, Kretinga, etc. This folk artist lives in Kretinga.
                                        He is a member of Lithuanian Folk Artist Association Žemaitija Department.

 
Tadas Šorys
sorys1979  born in Kretinga.
Wood carver.
At present he lives and creates on the farmstead in Kretinga. It is the heritage of his great-grandfather Juozas Lukauskas (1906-1999).
This wood carver took part in several folk artist camps (2001-2002 in Kretinga district and in 2006 – in Šventoji). In 2001 – 2002 together with other masters he created Astronomy Calendar in Kretinga Museum‘s park of counts Tishkevich.
He takes part in exhibitions.
Tadas is a member of Lithuanian Folk Artist Association Žemaitija Department.

 
Virgilijus Vaičiūnas

Skulptorius. Medžio drožėjas.
1972m. baigė Plungės 1-ąją vidurinę mokyklą. 1974 m. įstojo į Vilniaus inžinerinės statybos instituto (dabar – VGTU) Architektūros fakultetą, 1980 m. įsigijo architekto specialybę. Buvo Skuodo r. Architektūros skyriaus grupės vadovas, Skuodo r. L. Adomausko kolūkio architektas, Kretingos r. K. Požėlos kolūkio architektas.1990m. grįžo prie drožybos. 2003 m. sukurtas filmas apie jo kūrybą – “Prakalbintas ąžuolas“. Nuo 1992m. - Lietuvos tautodailininkų sąjungos Žemaitijos skyriaus narys. 2007m. Kultūros ministro įsakymu suteiktas Meno kūrėjo statusas. Dalyvauja parodose Lietuvoje ir užsienyje.

Adolfas Viluckis

viluckis1939 11 30 born in the village Grūšlaukis in Kretinga region.
Wood carver.
He has been interested in carving since childhood. He has taken part in exhibitions since 1959.
In 1960 he became a member of Lithuanian Folk Artist Association Žemaitija Department. In 1964 Adolfas was granted the name of folk master.
In 1986 the artist was awarded the P.Galaunė premium by Cultural Ministery. In 1987 he became a laureate of the 2nd festival of Union folk creation.
He has created more, than 200 sculptures. Adolfas has held 14 solo exhibitions and taken part in 50 folk exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad.
His credo is-to cherish the pure tradition in wood sculpture.
