About Children Department

The Children Library Number 1 was established in 1956. After the centralization of Klaipeda public libraries it was reorganized to Children Department, which has become an important center of culture for children. The library was modernized in 1999. The project "Children Library - center of information, culture and self – education" was realized with Open Society Institute support. Technical conditions were created for the activity of the "Information Skills Learning Center", and we established Toys and Games Center.
This year is especially important for the entering in to the relationships with the school librarians. Teaching children information skills was connecting link between the libraries of the different subordinations. We want to create a place where librarians could share information and experience. Relationships has become deeper after the seminar “Librarian – educator: questions of learning information skills”.
We would like children from asocial families and disabled children would feel good and comfortably at the library. We organize our work together with the Klaipeda City Municipality Service For Protection of Children Rights and schools for disabled children.
