The changeable destiny of Klaipeda City Public Library was predetermined with the intricate historical and geopolitical situation of the city.

So they took the initiative of the library establishing. Because Union had no means, so they appealed to the municipality of the city for a financial support. The Board decided to establish typical city library in February 1920. Premises, means for repairing and wages were find. Klaipeda City Public Library opened a door in 1920 (reading room on October 4, book lending on December 1). The City Board members and many guests took part in the opening ceremony.
